Once the ballots have been cast, the candidates enter an "instant runoff" whereby the lowest performing candidate is eliminated and every voter who chose that candidate as their number one pick gets to default to their next choice in order of preference. This process keeps happening until one candidate passes the 50% threshold of support, winning the election.
